Northern Peninsula Housing Market Area - Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
The Government requires Local Planning Authorities to take a pro-active approach to delivering housing. Part of this approach requires that the authorities prepare a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) to identify and assess land that might have the potential to deliver future housing development. The process seeks to ensure sites subsequently identified through development plans are deliverable.
Four authorities within the Northern Peninsula Housing Market Area (Exmoor National Park Authority, North Devon Council, Torridge District Council and West Somerset Council) are embarking on the process of preparing a SHLAA to cover each of their authority areas. The authorities are taking a partnership approach to SHLAA preparation and each authority will follow an agreed joint methodology. The partner authorities have consulted on a Draft methodology and requested nominations from interested parties to sit on a Stakeholder Panel.
Torridge District Council and North Devon Councils have undertaken a public call for potential housing sites. This exercise ran for six weeks and closed on the 1st April 2009. The results of this exercise along with sites identified by other means will now be assessed as part of the SHLAA preparation process.
On this consultation portal you will find details of any further opportunities to get involved in preparing the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments. There are not currently any opportunities to get further involved in the preparation of the SHLAA.
